Sussex County YMCA Wellness Center Expansion

The Sussex County YMCA is expanding its Wellness Center by 5,000 square feet. The new space adds more free weight space, additional functional training areas, EGYM smart fitness technology, and enhanced recovery and wellness options.

We’re proud to partner with local businesses on this work, including HQW Architects and Wallkill Group, both based in Sussex County.

More Room to Train, Recover, and Grow

Our members asked for more space, and our community keeps growing. The expanded Wellness Center is designed to give everyone room to move, from first-time lifters to experienced athletes. Bright, open training floors, modern strength equipment, and dedicated recovery areas mean shorter waits and a better experience every visit.

  • Enhanced recovery and wellness options: Dedicated space to help your body bounce back.

A New Pavilion for Year-Round Outdoor Programs

A permanent pavilion on the upper field will give campers and members covered outdoor space for programs throughout the year. For Summer Day Camp, it means shade, shelter, and room to serve more kids and families. It will take about a month for the pavilion to be constructed, beginning in late October 2026.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

What is the Sussex County YMCA building?+
We’re expanding our Wellness Center by about 5,000 square feet. The new space will have more room to lift, train, and recover, with lots of natural light and modern equipment. We’re also building a permanent pavilion on the upper field.
What will the new Wellness Center include?+
  • More free weight space
  • Additional functional training areas
  • EGYM smart fitness technology
  • Expanded recovery and wellness options
  • More capacity, so there’s less waiting and more room to move
What is eGYM?+
EGYM is smart strength equipment that adjusts to you. It remembers your settings, tracks your progress, and helps you train at the right level, whether you’re just starting out or working toward a new personal best.
Why is the Y expanding?+
Our members and community have shared that they need more space to train, and our community keeps growing. This expansion is an investment in our members and in the future of the Sussex County YMCA, so we can serve more people better for years to come.
Who is building it?+
We’ve partnered with Wallkill Group and HQW Architects, both trusted local businesses.
When does construction start, and when will it be finished?+
Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2026 and end in August of 2027, with timing subject to weather and site conditions. If the timeline changes, we'll let members know right away.

Parking & Access

Will the Y stay open during construction?+
Yes. The Y will remain open throughout the project. Some areas may need temporary adjustments, and we’ll let members know ahead of time whenever a space, program, or entrance is affected.
Will construction affect parking or how I get into the building?+
You may notice temporary changes to traffic patterns, parking, or walkways around the work zone. We’ll post signs on-site and share updates by email so you always know the best way in.
Will the Pickleball Center be affected?+
The YMCA Pickleball Center will continue operating as normal during construction.

Membership & Programs

Will my classes or programs be affected?+
Most programs will run as usual. If a class or program needs to move to another space or time, we’ll tell you in advance. Check the SCY Daily Schedule for the most current information.
Will my membership fees change?+
