General Information
-
What’s Included in Our YMCA Summer Camp Registration?
Day trips are always free unless otherwise noted. Every child registered for camp gets a camp t-shirt to wear on trip days, and extra t-shirts are $10 each. Before care and after care are available for an additional fee.
-
What Will My Child Get Out of Camp?
Hours of daily movement, real friendships, unstructured time, and a sense of mattering to a group. Your child won’t miss their phone at camp — not because we take it, but because something better is always happening. After a summer at camp, you may be pleasantly surprised to see your child come home happy and more independent.
-
Is My Child Ready for Camp?
If your child is excited to go, that’s the best sign. For sleepaway camp, we generally suggest waiting until age 7 and trying a night at a relative’s house first. Day camp is a good first step. Not sure? Reach out and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s the right fit.
-
How Do I Register My Children for YMCA Summer Camps?
The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges makes it easy to register your children online! If you do not have an online account set up yet, go to SGA pulse and create one. Please Note: Your child must have a valid YMCA membership at the time of registration and while attending summer camp to receive the membership rate. If your child does not have a membership when camp starts and during the time they’re away at camp, the fees will be adjusted to our community member rate. You must register online to guarantee a spot.
A down payment is due at registration to complete it (see each camp’s rates above). Down payments are non-refundable and non-transferable. Pay your balance by May 15 to keep your child’s spot. After that, the spot goes to the next family on the waitlist and the deposit can’t be refunded. Any changes made within 30 days of the start of camp will incur a $50 charge. Any camp registration within 30 days of camp requires FULL payment at the time of registration. We do offer financial assistance for families on a tight budget. Please download our Financial Assistance Application to see if you qualify for financial assistance.
-
Who Will Be With My Child All Day?
Counselors who have been screened, background-checked and trained before camp starts. Many of our lead staff work at the Y year-round, so the person greeting your child in July may already know your family.
-
Do I Need a YMCA Membership?
No. Any family can register. A valid YMCA membership gets you the member rate; everyone else pays the community rate.
-
Are Meals Included? What Should My Child Bring?
Pack a lunch, two snacks, a water bottle, sunscreen and bug spray. For swim days: swimsuit, cap, towel, change of clothes, rubber-soled shoes and a plastic bag for wet things.
-
How Do You Keep My Child Safe?
Our camps are accredited by the American Camp Association and Praesidium. Every counselor is screened, background-checked and trained before camp starts, and swimming is supervised by certified lifeguards.
-
When Does 2027 Registration Open?
December 1, 2026. Returning 2026 campers get priority registration Dec. 1–18; member and community registration follow by branch.

Contact Us for More Info on YMCA Summer Camp Registration
The YMCA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit social services organization dedicated to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges is a New Jersey affiliate of the YMCA serving individuals and families across the state with branches in East Orange, Wayne, Fairview Lake, and more. Please reach out to us with any questions or concerns you may have regarding our summer camp registration process, and a member of our friendly staff would be more than happy to assist you!
Can I get help paying for camp?
Yes. If cost is a barrier, apply for Y for All financial assistance. It lowers camp fees for qualifying families, and no child is turned away for inability to pay. Apply even if you’re not sure you qualify — we want your child here regardless of what your family is navigating financially.
