Travel Basketball

Our Youth Sports Programs cultivate values, skills, and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health, and educational achievement. Youth sports help children to grow personally, appreciate diversity, develop leadership skills, and have fun. We incorporate our core values: Respect, Honesty, Responsibility, and Caring into all our classes. 

Join the West Essex YMCA Travel Basketball Team and compete against top YMCA teams! Open to all skill levels, this is a great way to improve your game, build teamwork, and have fun.

Built for committed players

Travel basketball is more demanding than recreational play and takes a real time commitment. Every player should come to tryouts fully prepared and ready to compete.

Travel Basketball Tryout Details

Tryouts are required

All players must try out, no exceptions. Attend at least two tryout sessions to be eligible for team selection.

Tryout schedule

All tryouts are held in the New Milford Program Center YMCA Gymnasium. Find your player's division, then register for each session you plan to attend.

Professional evaluators run every tryout and select teams based on skill, talent and attitude.

What to expect

  • Practices 2–3 times per week, depending on number of teams and gym space

  • Games home and away, so travel is required

  • Opponents include other area YMCAs and local travel teams

  • Playing time is not guaranteed

  • Schedules for practices and games are shared after team selection

Registration and fee

$350 maximum total cost, uniform included

  • Covers league and tournament registration

  • Players who make a team register through the New Milford YMCA Program Center, a branch of the Greater Bergen County YMCA
